18 Years Apart — Ghulam Fatima Reunited | Mera Pyara

Alhamdulillah,  after 18 long and painful years, Ghulam Fatima has finally returned to her family. This deeply emotional reunion was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Mera Pyara, working under the vision of Punjab Safe Cities Authority.

Ghulam Fatima, approximately 56 years old, had been separated from her loved ones for nearly two decades. All these years, her family lived with uncertainty and grief, while she remained missing with no way to reach them.

Ghulam Fatima was found in a vulnerable condition and on 25 August 2023, shifted to Edhi Foundation. Because she could not clearly share information about her family, tracing her relatives became a major challenge. She remained under the care and protection of Edhi Home while efforts to identify her continued quietly in the background.

As part of its national mission to reunite missing and unidentified individuals with their families, the Mera Pyara reunification team visited Edhi Home and conducted interviews with residents there. Ghulam Fatima was among those interviewed. The team carefully recorded all available details, documented her profile into the Mera Pyara internal tracing system, and shared her information with local police and ran social media campaigns,  leaving no stone unturned.

These consistent and tireless efforts finally paid off. Ghulam Fatima's nephew, Mr. Aqeel, came across the shared information and immediately recognized his aunt. He contacted the Mera Pyara team, confirmed her identity, and informed them that she was divorced and had a son. Following this, the team initiated a complete verification process, carefully reviewing all family details and evidence. After all legal and necessary procedures were completed, Ghulam Fatima was safely reunited with her family.

The moment of reunion was filled with tears, relief, and gratitude. After 18 years, a family embraced their loved one again, a moment that words can barely describe.

Such success stories reflect the real and life-changing impact of Mera Pyara's mission. Because of its meaningful work and continued efforts, the initiative has earned global recognition and is selected among the Top 20 E-Government Projects at WSIS Forum 2026.

Mera Pyara continues its mission, to ensure that every missing and vulnerable person safely returns home.
